The JR EAST PASS is an economical and flexible rail pass to
travel around Eastern Japan. It is valid for travel on all the 72
railway lines of JR EAST: 5 Shinkansen Super Express Lines &
67 Conventional Lines. The JR EAST PASS comes in several
variations to meet your itinerary and is available as a 5 Day.
Who can buy the JR East Pass?
The JR East Pass is a special discounted pass available only to
travelers visiting Japan from foreign countries for sightseeing. You
must hold a passport issued by a foreign government and entering
Japan as a “Temporary Visitor”, which is a status of residence
defined under Japanese immigration law. The JR East Pass allows
unlimited rides on all JR East train lines. Start with a trip from
Narita Airport or Haneda Airport to Tokyo, for example, then ride
around, and may be hop aboard the Shinkansen or a limited
express to Sendai or Nagano. In additional to JR East lines, the JR
East Pass allows rides on some non-JR trains in the Izu and Nikko
areas. While in Japan, take advantage of this great offer to see a

"Temporary visitor" entry status, according to Japanese Immigra-
tion Law, allows a stay in Japan of 15 days or 90 days for "sight-
seeing, etc.". If you apply for a "stay for sight-seeing" when you
enter Japan, entry personnel will stamp your passport "temporary
visitor". Only persons who have a passport bearing this stamp can
use a JR East Pass.

JR East Pass Validity
Flexible five-day pass: you can use the pass on any five days
within a 14-day period starting with the date of exchange in
Japan. You do not have to determine your 5 travel dates at the
time of purchase or exchange. For example, if you purchase your
pass or get it by exchange on August 1, you can show the pass
at a station on any five days between August 1 and August 14
and it will be stamped as valid for use on the day.

Seating can be limited, so please make your reservations early.
If no reserved seating is available, you may use the non-reserved
seating. JR East does not refund the difference between the
price of a reserved and a non-reserved seat in these situations.

Visit a JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) or Travel Service
