Breakfast, lunch and dinner on own.

On our way to the Washington State capitol of Olympia today we will visit one of the largest waterfalls in the country, Snoqualmie Falls, which was named for the local Native American tribe that once inhabited the area. These falls became famous as a filming location for the hit television show "Twin Peaks.". They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Traditional Cultural Property for their place in the beliefs of the Snoqualmie people as the place where first man and first woman were created. After seeing the falls we will head to the Washington State Fair and "do the Puyallup" - the Puyallup Fair is the largest single attraction held annually in the state of Washington, and ranks among the top ten largest fairs in the United States. Eat lunch on your own at the Washington State Fair.

Tonight we will stay at a casino resort hotel run by the “People of the sands” – the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation, which features more than 1,300 hot slots, roulette, blackjack, craps, live Keno and many others and a 55,000 square foot gaming floor that includes a smoke-free gaming area.

Day 6: Sep 17 (Tue) Portland via Mount St. Helens (B)

Breakfast at hotel, lunch and dinner on your own. Today we will head towards Portland via Mount St.  Helens, which in 1980 was the site of the deadliest volcanic event in the history of the United States. After a 5.1 Richter earthquake the north face of the volcano collapsed in a massive avalanche and nearly 230 square miles of forest was blown down or buried beneath volcanic deposits. The nine hour eruption generated a mushroom-shaped column of ash rising thousands of feet skyward and turning day into night. We’ll stop by the gateway to Mount St. Helens, the Silver Lake Visitor’s Center and then proceed into the mountain and the Johnston Ridge Observatory which has a view of the crater itself. Lunch on your own at local restaurant.

Tonight we arrive in Portland, whose unofficial slogan “Keep Portland Weird” is a tribute to the individuality, expressionism, art and atypical lifestyle choices of the local residents.
