Day 1:


Oct 8 (Tue)  Honolulu Departure Day

11:55 AM        Depart for Osaka on Japan Airlines flight JL 791. Lunch and light snack served on the flight.

Day 2:


Oct 9 (Wed)  Naha, Okinawa

4:15 PM          Arrive at Osaka Kansai International Airport. Proceed through immigration procedures then claim your baggage and go to customs. Wait for your tour escort to transfer to our Okinawa flight.

8:20 PM          Depart for Okinawa on Japan Airlines Transocean Air flight NU 9.

10:20 PM        Arrive at Naha Airport – Claim your luggage at the baggage claim area and wait for your tour escort to transfer to our Naha hotel. Dinner on your own.

Day 3:


Oct 10 (Thu) Naha City Tour – Awamori and Umi Budo! (B)

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

Depart for Naha City Tour by chartered bus with guide, including three UNESCO World Heritage sites - Shuri Castle, Sonohyan Utaki and Tamaudun. Shuri Castle was the home of the Ryukyu Kings and the center of the Ryukyu Islands until 1879, when Okinawa became a prefecture of Japan. Inside the Shuri Castle grounds is Sonohyan Utaki, the sacred grove (shrine) of the Royal Court. Nearby the Shuri Castle site is the Royal Mausoleum of Tamaudun.

We’ll have lunch on our own at San-A Naha Main Place shopping center before visiting the Okinawa Prefectural Museum. After the museum we will pay a visit to the local Uminchi sea grape farm for a sea grape picking experience. Sea grape (“umi budo”) is nutritious and delicious seaweed that grows only in Okinawa and looks like a mini string of green pearls that pops in your mouth like caviar! Our last stop of the day will be at the Chuko Awamori Distillery - sample a variety of sake from the only maker in Okinawa that ages Awamori (Okinawan sake) in its own homemade jars.

Return to the Hotel. Dinner on your own.

Day 4:


Oct 11 (Fri) Southern Tour – the Battle of Okinawa (B, L)

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

Depart by chartered bus with guide for Gyokusendo Cultural Park. The limestone cave here contains over 1,000,000 stalactites and is the largest of its kind in Asia. Also within the park are a snake museum, traditional Okinawan houses and gardens, crafts and more.

10:30 AM       Enjoy a performance of traditional Eisa dancing and Okinawan taiko.

Buffet lunch at the Gyokusendo restaurant. You can also visit the Snake Museum near the exit of the park, but be back on the bus by 12:30 PM. After lunch we will visit the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, the site of the largest war memorial in Okinawa. This park includes the Okinawan Peace Memorial Hall, site of the world’s largest tsuikin (lacquer) statue, the Cornerstone of Peace (Heiwa no Ishiji), with the names of over 240,000 casualties of war inscribed on its granite walls, and the Okinawan Peace Memorial Museum. Next we will visit the Himeyuri Monument and the Himeyuri Peace Museum, erected in memory of the 222 high-school nurse trainee girls and 18 teachers of the Himeyuri Student Nurse Corps who perished during the Battle of Okinawa.

Our last stop of the day will be to the Former Japanese Naval Headquarters in Tomigusuku, the secret underground shelter which housed the Okinawa District Headquarters of the Japanese Navy. When defeat became inevitable, Admiral Minoru Ohta and other officers committed suicide here. 

Return to the hotel, dinner on your own.

Day 5:


Oct 12 (Sat) Naha Matsuri Parade (B) 

Buffet breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner on your own.

Today is a free day for exploring on your own and shopping, but there will also be optional morning and evening activities, and the spectacular Naha Matsuri Parade in the afternoon. The parade begins near Makishi Station and ends near Ryubo Department Store. The parade begins around 2:00 PM in the afternoon on Kokusai Dori.

  1. OPTIONAL Morning Walking Tour: Join your tour escort for a walking tour of the Kokusai Dori, Heiwa Dori and Makishi Market neighborhood.
  2. OPTIONAL Evening Festival Tour: Join your tour escort for a ride on the monorail to Tsubogawa Station and enjoy festival activities featuring food, entertainment, a bazaar and fireworks in the evening at Onoyama Park (monorail fare not included, about three dollars each way, return on your own).

Day 6:


Oct 13 (Sun) Hatagashira Parade – Naha Matsuri Tug of War (B)

Buffet breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner on your own.

Today is a free day for exploring on your own and shopping, but there will also be optional morning, afternoon and evening activities, and the Hatagashira (“banner”) parade from 11:30 AM on Kokusai Dori. The tug of war starts around 2:30 PM in the afternoon on Highway 58. The Naha O-Tsunahiki is the largest tug of war in the world with the largest rope in the world. There are Karate and Hatagashira demonstrations before the rope ends are connected and a show on top of the rope before more than 15,000 people join in the tug of war!

  1. OPTIONAL Morning Walking Tour: Join your tour escort for a walking tour to the site of this afternoon’s tug of war on Route 58 – a great chance to see the rope up close (return on your own)!
  2. OPTIONAL Tug of War Walking Tour: Join your tour escort to go see the Guinness Book World Record holding Naha Matsuri tug of war (return on your own).
  3. OPTIONAL Evening Festival Tour: Join your tour escort for a ride on the monorail to Tsubogawa Station and enjoy festival activities featuring food, entertainment, a bazaar and fireworks in the evening at Onoyama Park (monorail fare not included, about three dollars each way, return on your own).

Day 7:


Oct 14 (Mon) Northern Tour Day 1 (B, L) 

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

Depart by chartered bus with guide for the Churaumi (“Beautiful Seas”) Aquarium in Okinawa’s Ocean EXPO Park, the world’s first aquarium designed to raise multiple whale sharks and mantas. When it opened in 2002 it was the largest aquarium in the world! There is a Dolphin Show at the Okichan Theater at 11:00 AM, and after the show we will have lunch inside the park before departing for the rest of our tour. After lunch we will stop at Nakijin Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second largest castle in Okinawa. It was the center of the northern Hokuzan Kingdom until it fell in 1416 during the unification of Okinawa under King Hashi of Shuri. Next will be a stop at Goya Park to see some exotic breeds of Goya – this is a working Goya processing plant and hydroponic facility, the first Goya Tea manufacturing plant in the world.

Return to hotel, dinner on your own.

Day 8:


Oct 15 (Tue) Northern Tour Day 2 (B)

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

Depart by chartered bus with guide and drive along the West coast of Okinawa by Urasoe, Ginowan, Chatan, Kadena and Yomitan to Takoyama Park (Ryukyu Mura). Here you can experience life as it was in pre-war Okinawa, with village houses that are over one hundred years old and re-creations of ancient festivals. After Ryukyu Mura we will stop at Aeon Mall Nago Shopping Center (which includes a Uniqlo and a Daiso) for lunch on our own and shopping. Our last stop will be to visit the Orion Beer Factory in Nago, the only Orion Beer factory in the world, to learn about how beer is brewed and then sample free Orion beer, soft drinks, and otsumami.

Day 9:


Oct 16 (Wed) Departure Day (B)

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Leave luggage at front desk and check out of hotel by 11:00 AM, free time for shopping and eating lunch until departure around 1:30 PM. We will stop by Naminoue Shrine, the primary shrine of Okinawa Prefecture, on the way to the airport,

5:35 PM          Depart for Osaka on Japan Airlines Transocean Air flight NU 8.

7:30 PM          Arrive at Osaka Kansai International Airport. Exit the plane and transfer to our flight to Honolulu.

10:10 PM        Depart for Honolulu on Japan Airlines flight JL 792. Meal and snack served on the flight.

Deposit and Final Payment:

* A $300.00 non-refundable deposit per person will be required at the time of booking.

* The remaining balance is due by June 28th 2019.

* If reservation is made after June 28th 2019 then full payment is due at time of booking.

* If remaining balance of payment is not made within the above-required period of time, JTB USA, Inc. reserves the right to cancel reservations.

Cancellations and Changing Fees:  (Please read very carefully)

Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. Therefore, the following fees will apply:

Cancellation or any changes within:

* Until final payment:  $300 deposit
*Final payment – August 2nd 2019:  30% of the total tour fee
* August 3rd 2019 – September 6th 2019:  50% of the total tour fee
* September 7th 2019 – September 17th 2019:  75% of the total tour fee
*  September 18th ~:   100% of the total tour fee

Airline tickets are non-refundable after issue. Other additional individual arrangements may not be refundable. Please check with our travel agents.

3.

Participation:

For the benefit of everyone in your tour group, JTB USA, Inc. reserves the right to accept or reject any person as a tour participant, and to remove from the tour any participant whose conduct is deemed incompatible with the interests of the other participants.

We require a minimum of 16 participants to guarantee the tour.

JTB USA, Inc. will notify participants of any changes by 100 days prior to departure.

We regret that our escorted tours will operate only when booked by a sufficient number of participants. We reserve the right to cancel any departure date that has insufficient  demand. 

** There may be a possibility of operating tours with less than 16 participants, but changes to price and itinerary may become necessary.

Responsibility:

The tour participant agrees that neither JTB USA, Inc. nor its affiliates shall be liable for any damage, loss (including personal injury, death, and property loss) or expense occasioned by any act or omission of any supplier providing services, or any insurer or insurance administrator under the Travel Protection Plan, or of any other person, or any other situations beyond the control of JTB USA, Inc., including weather, natural disaster, war, civil unrest, and order of government or immigration regulations.

Land Only:

If you purchase this package as LAND ONLY please be aware that the Land Only designation includes hotels/meals/and sightseeing only. International and domestic air flights as well as transportation to/from airports are not included.
