The Tohoku region consists of 6 Prefectures. From the North, Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata and Fukushima, respectively and each prefecture carries its own unique nature and traditional crafts. Tohoku offers an endless variety of places to explore, from remote mountain villages and deep forests to scenic coastal towns, all within easy reach from Tokyo.

Day 1: Narita or Haneda Airport - Tokyo

This is a tailor made travel program and we can craft your personalized itinerary designed based on your interests.

Arrival at Narita/Haneda Airport in Tokyo and transfer to your hotel in Tokyo.

Overnight: Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi or similar

Day 2: Tokyo - Oirase, Aomori

After breakfast, head to Tokyo station and board a “ Shinkansen” (High Speed Train) to Aomori. Upon arrival, proceed to Aomori city sightseeing. As Nebuta is the one of biggest festival in Tohoku area, visit the Nebuta House “Warasse”, a museum for lantern floats. After sightseeing, proceed to Oirase.

Overnight: Hoshino Resorts or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 3: Oirase - Kakunodate, Akita

Today will be a long day of travel by car. After breakfast, visit the Oirase Stream and Lake Tazawa. The crystal- clear Oirase river flows almost parallel to the road through a beautiful deciduous forest. After sightseeing, proceed to Kakunodate, Akita.

Overnight: Wabizakura or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 4: Kakunodate - Tsunagi Onsen, Iwate,

After breakfast, enjoy sightseeing in Kakunodate, a former castle town and Samurai Stronghold. Experience Japanese Kabazaiku (Cherrybark Craftwork). After sightseeing, proceed to Tsunagi Onsen in Iwate.

Overnight: Shikitei or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 5: Tsunagi Onsen - Hiraizumi - Matsushima, Miyagi

After breakfast, head to Koiwai farm in the Hiraizumi area. The entire area of Hiraizumi is actually a World Heritage site, where one can Temples, gardens and archaeological sites representing the Buddhist pure land. After sightseeing, head to Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture.

Overnight: Matsushima Sakan Shoan or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 6: Matsushima - Sendai, Miyagi

After breakfast, depart for Matsushima sightseeing. Matsushima is famous for its bay, which is dotted by many pine clad islets and has been ranked one of Japan’ s three most scenic views for centuries. After sightseeing, head to Sendai city.

Overnight: Westin Hotel Sendai or similar [Breakfast]

Day 7: Sendai - Zao Onsen, Yamagata

After breakfast, enjoy sightseeing in Sendai and feel Samurai sprits while visiting the land related to Date Masamune. Then proceed to Zao Onsen in Yamagata. The Zao “Okama” (cauldron), a mystical caldera lake brimming with emerald water is a must see spot.

Overnight: Miyamaso Takamiya or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 8: Zao Onsen - Nihonmatsu, Fukushima

After breakfast, head out for Goshikinuma hiking in Fukushima. Goshiki numa means “Five colored Marshes” and is a group of very picturesque lakes and ponds on a highland plain in Bandai-Asahi National Park. Approximately 1hour of steady walking. Then, visit Lake Hibara, the largest lake in the Urabandai regon and enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of Mt. Bandai.

Overnight: Urabandai Kogen Hotel or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 9: Nihonmatsu - Aizu Wakamatsu - Bandai Atami Onsen, Fukushima

After breakfast, head to Aizu Wakamatsu city, visiting Aizu Wakamatsu Castle and a sake brewery. Depart for Ouchijuku, a former post town along the Aizu Nishi Kaido trade route, which connected Aizu with Nikko during the Edo Period. Then proceed to Bandai Atami Onsen.

Overnight: Shikisai Ichiriki or similar [Breakfast / Dinner]

Day 10: Bandai Atami Onsen - Tokyo

After breakfast, transfer to Koriyama Station. Board on Shinkansen to Tokyo.

Overnight: Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi or similar [Breakfast]

Day 11: Tokyo - Narita or Haneda Airport

After Breakfast, transfer to Narita/Haneda International airport. From Narita/Haneda airport, take your fight back to the US.
