Day 1: Nov 12 (Thu) Honolulu – Taipei

7:00 AM    Depart for Taipei on China Airlines flight CI 1, meal and snack served on the flight. China Airlines is Taiwan’s national carrier, and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2019.

Day 2: Nov 13 (Fri) Arrival Day: Taiwan the Heart of Asia (D)

12:10 PM    Arrive at Taoyuan International Airport. After immigration claim your luggage and wait for your tour escort before exiting customs.

Meet our local English speaking guide and transfer to Taipei by air-conditioned coach for a visit to Lungshan Temple. One of Taiwan’s most beloved temples, Lungshan is famous for Yue Lao, the “Old Man Under the Moon” - the Chinese matchmaking diety who helps those looking for love. Then visit the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, built to honor General Chiang Kai-Shek, who ruled the Republic of China for 46 years. Lastly, we’ll stop for the spectacular views from the Taipei 101 observatory, the tallest building in the world until 2010. Travelling at 1,010m per minute, the Taipei 101 high-speed elevator takes only 40 seconds to get from ground level to the 89th-floor observation deck. We’ll finish the day with an early dinner at the Din Tai Fung Restaurant, famous for its soup dumplings.

Buffet breakfast at hotel, lunch and dinner at local restaurants.

Depart by air conditioned coach with local guide to visit the Xinshe Sea of Flowers - with over 60 hectares of brightly flowered colors, this annual festival has been a mainstay in Taichung since 1913. We’ll also pay a visit to the Rainbow Village – a small village hand painted by Huang Yong-fu, the “Rainbow Grandpa”, who began painting in a crusade to save his village from demolition. Called by some the “Hayao Miyazaki of Taiwan”, Huang Yong-fu created what is now said to be an “Instagrammer’s paradise”. Later on we’ll visit the Feng Chia Night Market, established in 1963 and said to be the largest night market in Taiwan. Street food here ranges from Micheline listed charcoal grilled peppery buns to roasted beef cubes, sausages wrapped in sticky rice, deep fried cuttlefish and even pig’s blood cakes – something for everybody!

3:30 AM     Wake up at 3:30 AM for an optional excursion by Alishan Forest Railway to Chushan to see the sun rise over Yushan, the Jade Mountain. After breakfast depart with guide by air conditioned coach as we return to Taipei. On the way to Taipei, we will visit the Yuyupas Tsou aboriginal tribe cultural park to enjoy the aboriginal performance. The Tsuo are one of fourteen aboriginal tribes that occupied the island of Taiwan for as long as 15,000 years before the arrival of Han settlers from China. The name “Yuyupas” means "rich and safe" in the Tsuo language. Built in 2010 to bring the Tsuo culture to the public and aid recovery after the Morakot Typhoon in 2009, it covers an area of roughly two hectares and is surrounded by extensive tea gardens planted with alpine oolong tea.
