The Sapporo Snow Festival is one of Japan's largest winter events. Enjoy to see the hundreds of beautiful snow statues and ice sculptures. Hokkaido has a lot more to offer to visitors than its scenery. You can also try various activities to communicate with nature. Will visit Sapporo,Sounkyo Onsen, Abashiri and Kushiro.

Day 1: Feb.03 (Wed) Arrival at Chitose

After arrival at Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, you will walk over to your hotel on your own and check-in individually.
(Hotel is located inside of airport)

Day 2: Feb.04(Thu) Chitose Airport-Lake Shikotsu-Sapporo

Breakfast at the hotel.

08:45 AM

Depart for Lake Shikotsu with an English Speaking Guide (ESG) by chartered bus.

First stop at shoe store for snow shoes.

Visit Chitose Shikotsuko Hyoto Matsuri (Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival). The ice sculptures that are created out of the lake water here have distinctive clear blue color that it is called the "Shikotsu-ko Blue." You will be fascinated by the various ice figures that rise and stand in front of you.

Proceed to Shiraoi Town.

01:00 PM

Lunch at Kani Goten, salmon chan chan yaki will be served.

Visit Ainu Village in Shiraoi.
Include 1 hour museum tour by a curator who is also Ainu. With his guidance, we will learn about their way of like: living in harmony with nature and their struggles in real life. There will be dance and song performances inside the traditional Ainu house.

Proceed to Sapporo City.

Drive around city center land mark: Nijo Fish Market, Clock Tower & Odori Park.
This mini city tour will help to familiarize yourself with the city center during your free time.

Arrive at the hotel.

Enjoy Sapporo Snow Festival after check-in
After checking in at the hotel, our escort will take you to the Snow Festival site. There, you can find places to eat and enjoy your favorite food before you head back to the hotel.

Day 3: Feb.05(Fri) Sapporo~Otaru~Sapporo

Breakfast at the hotel.

09:00 AM

Our escort will guide you to the Sapporo Snow Festival site near the hotel on foot.
Known as Japan's most popular winter event, the streets will be packed with tourists, 
but we will smoothly guide you through the main sites: Odori Park Main Snow Festival Site where you can see the huge snow sculptures, and Susukino Ice Sculpture site where you can see smaller but detailed and artistic statues about a hundred of them lined up on the streets. 

We will also visit other interesting spots in Sapporo. This excursion tour will include Nijo Fish Market100 Yen store, etc.

03:00 PM

We will catch the train down to Otaru City.
Enjoy the train ride along Japan sea (fare is not included in tour/640yen) to Otaru. Visit Otaru Glass ware shop, music box shop and famous Otaru sweets shop

Enjoy Otaru Snow Light Path Festival where the entire city is decorated in lights and small snow statues. At around 5pm, the snow covered city will be lit with candles and Otaru canal will be filled with floating lights.

Catch a train back to Sapporo.

Day 4: Feb.06(Sat) Sapporo-Asahikawa-Sounkyo

Breakfast at the hotel.

09:00 AM

Depart for sightseeing with an ESG by chartered bus.  

Stop by Sunakawa Oasis for shopping.

Visit Takasago Sake Brewery *include free sample.

Lunch on your own at Asahikawa Ramen Village.

Proceed to Sounkyo, one of the largest canyons in Japan, formed by Ishikari River digging through the Daisetsuzan Mountains and also known for hot spring resort. 

Check in at the hotel (Onsen available at the hotel).                                                                            
Dinner at the hotel (buffet).

Leave for Sounkyo Ice Festival by hotel shuttle bus after dinner.
Sounkyo Ice Festival is another fantastic winter event in Hokkaido you must see. Huge ice statues, tunnels, and caves are displayed at the 2 acre field along the Ishikari River. At night, they're lit up in various colors which creates a marvelous winter wonderland atmosphere.

Return to hotel by hotel shuttle bus.

Day 5: Feb.07(Sun) Sounkyo-Abashiri

Breakfast at the hotel.

Depart for sightseeing with an ESG by chartered bus.

Stop at Ginga Ryusei Water Fall.  Here you can enjoy the two contrasting unique waterfalls. Since Sounkyo is one of the largest canyons in Japan, there are many waterfalls in the region and two of the most famous and beautiful falls are Ginga and Ryusei. While Ginga is an elegant waterfall with water flowing like white threads, Ryusei is a dynamic waterfall strongly falling about 90m down. In winter, these waterfalls freeze up and form massive ice pillars, and becomes a popular spots for ice climbing.

Proceed to Abashiri.

Lunch at the local restaurant (menu TBA).

03:00 PM

Take the most attractive and adventurous winter sightseeing tour, Ice Breaker Cruise by Aurora (1 hr). The drift ice comes from the Amur River and fills the Sea of Ohotsuku near the north east coast of Hokkaido. The ship will take you to the middle of the ice by breaking it while moving forward.

Arrive at the hotel.

Dinner at the hotel - Japanese set menu.

Day 6: Feb.08(Mon) Abashiri - Kushiro

Breakfast at the hotel.     

09:00 AM

Depart for sightseeing with an ESG by chartered bus.

Lunch at local restaurant (Japanese menu).

After lunch, we will visit two famous bird watching spots in Hokkaido during the winter.

Lake Tofutsu also called the "Swan Lake" is famous for the 300 swans that come fly during the winter and stay until the spring season comes. 

At Tsurumidai, we will see the Japanese Red Crowned Cranes that also come during the winter to seek for food.

Then proceed to Kushiro.

Arrive at the hotel.

Dinner on your own - will be guided by ESG.

Day 7: Feb.09(Tue) Kushiro

You will have breakfast at the hotel.

Rooms are available until regular check-out time.

* The remaining balance is due 66 days prior to the departure.
* If reservation is made less than 66 days prior to the departure, a full payment is due at the time of booking.
* If remaining balance of payment is not paid within the above-required period of time, JTB USA, Inc reserves the right to cancel reservations.



* In case of voluntary cancellation, the deposit remains non-refundable.
